Erik Brown has been cooking professionally for over twenty years.
He grew up in Berkeley, California, where he began his culinary
training in various restaurants in the Bay Area, among them Oliveto
in Oakland.
In 1989 he moved to Eugene, Oregon, to complete his B.A. in recreation
management while continuing to work in restaurants. There Erik met
his future wife, Jamie North.
In 1998 Erik moved with Jamie to Calistoga, California, in the
Napa Valley. There Erik cooked at Tra
Vigne and Domaine
Chandon. A year later, Erik and Jamie moved to Ashland, Oregon,
and opened Amuse Restaurant in the summer of 2000.
Jamie North was raised in a restaurant family where cuisine played
a central role in her life from an early age. She grew up in Medford,
Oregon, and worked in her family's restaurant starting at the age
of ten.
She continued to pursue her passion for the culinary arts while
obtaining a Fine Arts degree at the University of Oregon.
In 1997, while working as a pastry chef, Jamie met Erik Brown,
they were married and moved to the Napa Valley the following year.
While living in Calistoga she worked as a Pastry Cook at The
French Laundry and Terra.
She also worked for a small wedding cake and pastry company making
original wedding cakes.
After developing her skills in the pastry arts, Jamie returned
with Erik to make her home in Ashland. Jamie and Erik opened Amuse
Restaurant August 15, 2000.
